Tort Reform is a reference to proposals that would change our civil justice system to limit the ability of an injured person to go before a jury of his or her peers to have their grievance heard. Proponents of tort reform often argue that these measures would reduce skyrocketing insurance costs and limit frivolous lawsuits. They actively push this claim despite the fact that there are no studies, other than those funded by the insurance or healthcare industry that support this position. Results of self administered surveys by business, physicians or corporate groups that appear frequently in the press as “FACT” or “Statistics” are no replacement for empirical evidence. They are designed to serve only one purpose - to limit your rights as a citizen and let wrongdoers escape accountability.
